INTRODUCTION

Acclaim Otago (Inc) was started with a small but committed group of people in April 2003. We became an incorporated society soon afterwards and have continued to move from strength to strength since then.

We are a completely independent body with our own constitution and management. We are not affiliated in any way to any other group or national body.

We believed in the fact that a support group would not only be of benefit to injured people but also their families. We hope we have been able to make a difference, no matter how small, in each and every one of our member's lives. Living with an injury and its effects is not easy. Trying to find our way through the current IPRC act and ACC policy often leaves us confused and angry. As a support group we aim to relieve some of the anger and hurt. Together we can make a difference.

We have actively been involved in presenting both written and oral submissions to the following:

Review of the Way in Which Physiotherapy Services are Funded and Accredited by ACC - undertaken by David Goddard QC

Review of the Accident Compensation Corporation Fraud Unit - undertaken by Martin Jenkins

We also represent ACC claimants on the ACC Consumer Outlook Group (COG) which is a focus group set up by ACC to ensure consumers have a voice.

With the ability to share our feelings whether they be anger, joy, despondency, a fighting spirit or confusion we show by coming together that we are still alive. That is what this support group is about in our opinion.
